We hung around Shinjuku Thursday night.

On Friday we went to Central Tokyo, where we walked around the palace grounds (at least the
part we were allowed to walk around). Most of the original castle was destroyed during the US fire bombings of Tokyo. A huge garden has been built where the
main hall of the castle used to stand. However, the garden was closed on the day I visited. Before the castle was destroyed, it was the largest castle
in the world.
After that, we trekked to Yasukuni Shrine. This shrine is a little contraversial, because it is dedicated to
all those Japanese who have fought and died in wars since the Meiji period. One of these wars is WWII. Enshrined in one part of the shrine are the bodies
of some Japanese war criminals. The Prime Minister makes frequent visits to this schrine, which causes unrest amongst some of the general public. However,
it is still a nice shrine and is worth a visit.
