July 1

Finally! After working on my web page for a while, I have decided to post my first journal entry. So far, everything's on track for my trip to Japan. I got a new laptop (yay!) and I've been working out the details of my life to-be. I hope to update the pictures and about me sections soon. Stay tuned!

Well, the 4th of July came and went with no terrorist attacks. I'm not worried of another attack. If it happens, it happens. There's not much I can do about it. Worrying oneself sick over this sort of thing just gives in to the terror - and isn't that what the terrorists want?
Anyways, my family is going on vacation next week. WOOHOO! We're going to King's Dominion, which is where we used to go as a family, but we haven't been there in years, so it should be a great time. I can't wait!

Eiffel Tower at King's DominionJust got back from King's Dominion yesterday. I had a great time. It was great to take the kids with us and do the whole vacation thing as a family again. It may be a looooong time before we all get to do it again.

It seems like there is so much to do between now and August 2nd when I leave for DC Orientation. However, I know it will all work out, for better or for worse - most likely better! :D

Well, still no official word from the BOE regarding my apartment situation. The ALTs at the BOE have been more than helpful in giving me useful information and such, but I really want some official word. Oh well, I emailed someone at the Hokkaido BOE today, so maybe they'll speed up the process.

LESS THAN THREE WEEKS LEFT! AUGH! I can't believe it's so close! So much to do! So little time!

     Ask and ye shall receive!

I received an email today from the Board of Ed. They gave me some information on my apartment. I will be living in an 8 unit apartment building. My apartment is #103. It is small from the description and one of the pictures I got from a current JET, but I'm sure I will manage. The rent is 38,000 Yen/month (~$324 US), but the office pays 25,000 Yen of that amount, leaving only 12,000 Yen for me to pay (~$103 US). The deposit is only one month's (full) rent, so that's not too bad. Getting excited...

July 22

A great weekend! Meg and Nathan came up (down?) from New Jersey and Towson (respectively) to visit. We went out Friday night then went to Swallow Falls State Park on Saturday. I had a great time. It was really nice to see them both, since I may not get another chance to before heading to Japan.

I found out that sending things to Japan is very expensive. At least it is if you want it to get there quickly. Oh well, that's what I get for not sending stuff out earlier. I'm sending a few things that I will want to have at the apartment, but don't have to have with me in my suitcases. I'm heading to good ol' Wal-Mart to pick up a few things after work. I hope there is a Wal-Mart-esque store in Asahikawa! ;-)
